The chance of having another trainer become lucky friends with you, however, takes a long time.
To have the potential to have any of the trainers on your friend list to become a lucky friend, you must first achieve best friend status. You must do this by continuously interacting with them and strengthening your friendship with them, which you can do through several methods, and all of them focus on in-game activities. You and your friend can participate in battles or raids in the gym, send you gifts or trade with them.
If you were to interact with a single trainer on your friend list every day to increase your friendship level with them, here is the time to achieve best friend status:
- Good friends after a day
- Great friends after seven days
- Ultra friends after 30 days
- Best friends after 90 days
In short, it takes you three months to reach best friend status with another trainer. The process takes a bit of time, but it's worth it. After you become best friends, becoming lucky friends happens by chance. You need to do what you've been doing all this time to increase your friendship level, which is to interact with them by doing in-game activities. During one of these activities, the friend will become a lucky friend for a day.
When you have a Lucky Friend, the first Pokemon you both trade becomes a Lucky Pokemon. A Lucky Pokemon has cheaper stat upgrades and higher stat performance than a traditional Pokemon. These Pokemon are ideal for any roster, and if you can do this in the early stages of the Pokemon leveling path, great for you.
Because you can only do most of your friend's activities once a day, a best friend can become a lucky friend about once a day. The odds vary though, as the Lucky Friend buff doesn't always occur.
