The Hockey Mask limited item in the Roblox Avatar Shop has received an unwanted cosmetic update. Many Robloxians and limited item collectors have expressed disappointment with the new design. The original design resembled the classic Jason Voorhees hockey mask from the Friday the 13th slasher series, which could be the reason for this new redesign.
While unconfirmed, content creators like DeeterPlays believe the reason for the hockey mask change was a legal matter. There's no denying that the original Roblox Hockey Mask (see below) resembled Voorhees, who first donned the mask on Friday the 13th Part III.

For more complicated matters, the Friday the 13th franchise endured a legal battle for nearly half a decade. Victor Miller, the original screenwriter, is battling Horror Inc/Sean S. Cunningham to have the legal rights to the original screenplay revert to Miller. These legal issues began in 2016 and since then Voorhees' appearances have been almost non-existent in the media. It's also why we were skeptical of Voorhees making it to the Fortnite roster.
All that to say: we think the Roblox company wanted no part in this legal mess. Therefore, it's easier to modify the hockey mask in the avatar shop now, before it really becomes a problem later.
Another reason floating around for the hockey mask change comes from Roblox_RTC, which tweeted that the hockey mask texture was directly copied from Walmart's website. We can't confirm any of these rumors, so we'll have to take it all as speculative at this time.
How to get the Roblox Hockey Mask
Wondering how to get the Roblox Hockey Mask for yourself? It's not as simple as you might think. The Roblox Hockey Mask is listed as a limited face accessory in the Avatar Store. This means it's a very rare item to obtain, with only a small handful in existence on the platform. Currently, the Hockey Mask runs as low as 27 Robux for a maximum of 000 Robux. At least three sellers have even listed the hockey mask in the millions.
The Roblox hockey mask change came as a surprise to most. We expect to see more changes to Avatar items being implemented, if only to protect the platform from legal issues, especially as Roblox prepares to go public via a direct listing on March 10.
