You'll need the God of War Niflheim Cipher Coins if you want to access the optional realm of Niflheim - and you do, because the treasures that await you are worth it.
There are several Niflheim Cipher Coins hidden around Midgard, but you only need four to unlock the realm.
God of War Niflheim Cipher Locations
Niflheim is an endgame zone, mainly because you can only access ciphers after completing most of the main story.
The Niflheim Mountain Cipher
You'll revisit The Mountain during the Return to the Summit quest, and the game will force you to take a new route this time. He digs a tunnel through the mountain and lets you out along the cliff. There is a realm tear in front of you and a Niflheim cipher on the other side.
Ruins of the old cipher of Niflheim
The Ruins of the Ancient unlocks later in the story, after the water level drops in the Lake of Nine for the second time. Navigate to the Ruins and you'll see a Stone Elder patrolling the area.
You can defeat it or bypass it, but whichever you choose, the chest with Niflheim's cipher is hidden at the other end of the open area.
Niflheim figures from the Temple of Tire
You will drop down through the Temple of Tyr late in the game and you can find the last two digits here. The first is in the area with the two chains that flip the temple. Check the space next to the runes before dealing with the chain, and you'll see a chest with one of the numbers.
The second is in the room with the other chain, after the blade room. Take the Cipher out of the trunk and you're good to go.
Once you have your four coins, head to the top of Tyr Temple and the Bifrost Relic to access Niflheim. It's a tough challenge, so make sure you're well-equipped for the challenge with the right gear, including the Gauntlet of Ages Talisman.
