How to Manual in Skater XL

Skater XL is one of the answers to fill our need for skating games, because they lacked since Skate 3! It follows Skate's original trademark of using the stick to control the board, instead of buttons like in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. One of the easiest, yet most satisfying tricks to make is a manual, so here's how to do it exactly. .

The main difference between Skater XL controls and Skate controls is that both sticks come into play rather than the correct one. Instead of using the left stick to turn, you use the left and right triggers, so when performing tricks you'll have to get used to using the left stick as well as the right.

Execution of the manual

Luckily, making manuals is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. You can casually do manuals as you ride, or you can spin into a manual and then ride out again. Here's how:

  • For an ordinary manual: gently press the right stick.
  • For a nose manual: gently press the left stick.
  • If you're entering a manual from a sleight of hand, make sure the stick you're using first returns to center to reset.

It may take some practice first so you get the right pressure on the stick.

If you press too lightly, the manual will not register and your skater will continue to move forward with all four wheels on the ground. Same goes if you're a little too hard, but other times it can cause the skater to just pop the board on the tail causing you to stop.

Games like Skater XL and Session are good signs that skating games are coming back to life, hopefully we'll have even more in the future with Skate 4! Speaking of which, why not check out what we know so far about the Skate 4 release details?
