While every weapon in Monster Hunter Rise is viable at any level of play, some require more work than others to pull off successfully. While any tier list is a bit skewed, players can usually agree on an order of overall utility. So, let's put personal favorites aside and get down to business.

MHR weapon levels

Level S

  • Hunting Horn: The hunting horn has come a long way since the days of Monster Hunter World. It hits hard and can easily buff hunters and their allies with simple to use melodies.
  • Switch Axe: The most technical of the S tier, players will need to work a bit to fully master the Switch Axe. However, once they get past that initial learning curve, the Switch Ax hits hard and fast.
  • Longsword: A longtime fan favorite, the Longsword is easy to pick up and extremely viable at any level of play. Like the Switch Axe, it will take some experimentation to fully unleash its potential.

A level

  • Great Sword: The Great Sword is another fan favorite. However, unlike the longsword, its attacks are slower and need to be more calculated.
  • Charge Blade: The Charge Blade plays very similarly to the Switch Axe, but has a steeper learning curve, putting it lower on the list.
  • Heavy Bowgun: The first of two bowguns, the Heavy Bowgun has the added benefit of dealing more damage than its lighter counterpart. This works well with its status afflicting ammo, but requires the hunter to be more prepared for hunts.
  • Light Bowgun: The Light Bowgun works much like its heavier counterpart, but deals less damage. Its inherently lightweight frame also allows for more mobility.

Level B

  • Hammer: The King of Bonk can inflict massive damage, but is incredibly slow in his attacks. This leaves hunters prone to monster counterattacks.
  • Insect Glaive: Flashy and mobile, the Insect Glaive allows hunters to dance across the battlefield. It's been streamlined since Monster Hunter World but doesn't have the same power.
  • Gunlance: The Gunlance puts hunters in the middle of a fight. By bombarding and charging monsters, they can take and inflict serious damage. However, the steep learning curve prevents many from using this weapon to its full potential.

Level C

  • Dual Blades: Dual Blades are fast and aggressive. What they lack in damage, they more than make up for in raw speed. Fans of aggressive gameplay should give it a shot.
  • Sword and Shield: The Sword and Shield, former King of Monster Hunter World, has been on a steep decline. He is fast and agile but requires players to memorize his combos to be truly effective.
  • Spear: The spear allows players to go head-to-head with monsters, exchanging blows. He is not mobile by any stretch of the imagination and lacks the Gunlance's ability to bombard monsters.

Level D

  • Bow: Unfortunately for the bow, everything it does is best done by another weapon. It's not a bad weapon by any means, but it's just not as good as it could be.
