Mushrooms are a unique food that players can find in various places in Minecraft; Along with that, they can also grow them, but only if they plant them in a certain way.
How to Grow Red and Brown Mushrooms in Minecraft
There are two types of Minecraft mushrooms, red and brown, and both can be grown the same way. The main method is to create an underground or surface farm with a roof above. You can also place mushrooms on any block in the game, but if you want them to spread to other blocks as they grow, you'll need to use dirt.
You will also need an agricultural area with at least a light level of 12 before you can place the mushrooms. You can accomplish this on the surface by placing a roof over the truss; however, you will also need to be careful how you place your torches. If you put too much, the mushrooms will not grow; if you put too little in, hostile mobs will start to appear. That said, to get around this problem, you'll need to use recessed lighting or extend your torches.
But if you're having trouble getting the right level of light, you can skip it altogether by planting the mushrooms in the next blocks listed below.
-
Nylium: Nylium is a new addition with the Nether update; you can also find two versions. One is in Warped Forests and the other is in Crimson Forests.
-
Mycelium: You can find Mycelium in Mushroom Field biomes. As a side note, make sure you have an enchanted shovel with a touch of silk before trying to smash any mycelium blocks; if you break a block without it, you will simply destroy the block.
-
Podzol: If you want to find Podzol, you can find it inside the Giant Tree Taiga and the Giant Spruce Taiga biomes.
When you plant mushrooms in one of the blocks above, they can grow safely at any light level. However, building a farm takes a lot of work and there is a better way to get lots of mushrooms quickly; it is by growing giant mushrooms.

You will need plenty of space to grow giant mushrooms, at least four blocks on all sides of brown mushrooms and three of red mushrooms. You will also need to use one of the three blocks listed above; you will need bone meal with this.
Once you've placed the blocks, collect your bone meal, place it in your hotbar, and use your interaction key on the mushroom. This will grow the mushroom into a giant mushroom, and harvesting it can give you around 20 mushrooms. But beware, you may need to use more than one bone meal on a mushroom, depending on which block it's planted on. Luckily, getting bone meal is really easy in Minecraft when you have a composter.
