Avoid your innocent eyes!
Here in the land of relative freedom, we can experience almost any media in all its glory. With the exception of movies edited for TV, we can usually get our entertainment as created by its creator or as a director's cut or something. Some other countries are stricter in this regard. Video games that depict violence or drug use often vary from place to place. Cyberpunk 2077 is no exception. Reportedly, the highly anticipated next game from CD Projekt Red will be censored for Japanese audiences.
According to Press-Start, the version of Cyberpunk 2077 that Japan will get will have some pretty significant variations, including "addition of underwear to naked male/female characters, revision of some sexually explicit content, selective revision of human body slicing/ guts exposed, overhaul/removal of genitalia-shaped billboard/graffiti.” “Added underwear to naked male/female characters”?! Is this the future Japan wants?! I absorbed a lot of Japanese media saying the opposite. There are many examples of Japanese media depicting explicit acts like penetration in a way that might shock you. Or so I heard.
On the other end of the censorship spectrum, a surprising country is allowing Cyberpunk 2077 to launch without any censorship. Australia, which is notorious for censoring games like Fallout, DayZ, and We Happy Few, will get Cyberpunk 2077 in all its robotic glory. I'm proud of you, Australia! Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on November 19 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
