Fortnite developer Epic Games is committing to February 20 as the start date for the next season of the hit battle royale game. A new teaser image has appeared on the official Fortnite Twitter account, again featuring the golden handprint that has been causing a stir among Fortnite fans for the past 24 hours.
As you can see, the image contains the date of February 20, which means that Epic cannot take that back. Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 is coming to an end. Stick a fork in it, done.
The approach to the new season has been mysterious enough, a tactic that's actually a departure for Fortnite, which has historically taken a more brutal approach to in-game changes between seasons. All we currently know is that posters have started popping up in the real world with phone numbers that will send a message to anyone who calls them.
The messages tend to focus on something called The Agency, but no one knows what The Agency is right now, or what it does. We also know that in-game items have started going gold, and a new skin called Oro, who has an obsession with gold, has been datamined as of the v11.40 update.
Fan theories revolve around the idea of Oro working with or against The Agency to try and turn Fortnite into gold, and our favorite is that gold will be a new building material in the game. A change like this one, while it looks modest, could be quite huge. Would the gold just act as another level of walls and steps, or would it end up powering something else, like a new type of weapon?
With Season 2 set to begin on February 20, all of our questions will be answered in due course, but it's a wonderful thing to start speculating again about the future of Fortnite and what it might hold.
