Literally every event across the globe is currently being canceled or pushed back to a more appropriate time due to the coronavirus outbreak. And with Gamescom 2020 slated to take place in August, it won't take too long for event organizers to decide what to do with the exhibit. Hopefully we'll all be in a better place by the time this rolls around, but if Gamescom 2020 is canceled a plan has been put in place to ensure there remains a large online presence.

In a joint statement reported by Gamesindustry.biz, the show's digital footprint will be "significantly expanded and new modules added" if removed. A decision will take place in mid-May on whether or not this will happen. With Gamescom Opening Night Live already confirmed to return this year and indeed in years to come, we believe this part of the show will be significantly expanded to accommodate a selection of the demos that would have featured on the show. You have to assume that a lot of those booths would be for PlayStation 5 games, so an all-digital Gamescom event would have a focus on next-gen.

If Gamescom 2020 falls victim to the Coronavirus, it's good to know that event organizers have some sort of contingency plan in place to ensure these announcements don't get lost. Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments below.
