How much SSD space will you need for PlayStation 5 games?

It's always important to consider the extra SSD space you need for your games, especially when moving from one console generation to another. For many, the last year of transitioning from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X has been frustrating. It was especially annoying when popular games started taking up a lot of space, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the infamous 175GB hard drive requirement. The PlayStation 5 will launch with an 835GB SSD, but how many will the other games cost and will you need another 500GB SSD on the side to keep up?

So far, things don't seem too severe. We have Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon Soul's listed sizes, which come in at least 50GB and 66GB, respectively. That's not too shabby for some exciting launch titles. Both of these take up around 13% of all available hard drive space on the PlayStation 5. Neither of them has a big, exhausting multiplayer add-on that you stick with after finishing the story in solo. If these are the kinds of sizes we can expect for the next generation, things are looking up and that shouldn't be too bad for the future.

For gamers who prefer to have their games out of the box, not uninstalled, having a dedicated spare never hurts. However, you don't have to come on a budget to get one for the first few weeks of the new console. So far it looks like the games will take up around five to seven percent of the total space on your hard drive, but unfortunately we would need a larger multiplayer game at launch to serve as a better indicator for more live service games. Destiny 2 will be a great indicator of this, for example.
