Exploration is important in The Survivalists. The raft unlocks quickly with a pop-up telling you to venture beyond the starting island. The raft is easy to build. It is made from inexpensive supplies and materials. All of this can be found throughout the island.
The raft is useless on its own. The excitement leading up to the raft is immediately lost when you can't do anything with it. The raft, for such easy access and construction, needs the sail. The sail, on the other hand, is not unlocked as soon and is near the end of one of the crafting tree branches.
To get the veil, you have to go through the blanket and the sheet. You start with the basic model which you can build by hand. Top level covers must be crafted on a workstation. Once you unlock the Fur Items, you'll craft a Fur Rug and then the Deluxe Bed Sheet. The sail will unlock after making the luxury bed sheets.
It's an odd choice to place the sail so far away from the raft in the crafting tree, even though the materials make sense. This makes unlocking the raft early on worthless as it cannot be used until the sail is added.
Once you have the sail you are ready to head to other islands. Be warned that controlling the raft is a bit unusual.
