A long-requested feature for Fortnite is the ability to watch your friends. You know how it goes, you log in, but your buddy is already in a game, so you have to try to time it right to complete games at the same time, or just sit around and wait. The good news is that the arrival of Fortnite Chapter 2 means you can now watch your friends, under certain conditions.
How to see your friends in Fortnite Chapter 2
The first thing to know about your spectating friends is that you need to be together in a lobby. If you are, you can click on your friend's name and select spectator options.
As long as they've been playing a game for at least 30 seconds after the drop, you'll be able to watch them. You can't look before the drop, so if your friend is still waiting for the Battle Bus to show up, you'll have to wait.
You can also watch when everyone in the lobby is watching or playing a game. If someone in the lobby isn't doing any of these things, you won't be able to watch. This is an unusual aspect of the feature, and at this time it's unknown if this is a planned aspect or just a bug that needs to be fixed.
It can also take a bit of time to load, so don't get too excited if you have to wait a minute or two for the spectate function to start. The good news is that you no longer have to sit around while your friend completes the game and can watch their efforts and maybe even guide them to a victory.
