Splatoon 2's latest update is live, with some changes to multiplayer

Even though Splatoon 2 isn't getting any more in-game content right now, that doesn't mean the game won't see an improvement in multiplayer.

As detailed last month, a new update has gone live for the hit Nintendo Switch game. Some changes have been made to multiplayer, especially with some of his weapons.

We broke down some technical details in our last article. However, they are again detailed below, so you can get an idea of what has been changed.

    • Splattershot, Tentatek Splattershot, Kensa Splattershot, Hero Shot Replica, and Octo Shot Replica have now reduced ink consumption by approximately 8%. This should make reloading easier, although you'll want to keep some paint nearby.
    • The Luna Blaster, Luna Blaster Neo, and Kensa Luna Blaster have ink consumption reduced to a higher percentage, around 17%. Additionally, there is a decrease in time after firing before you can perform other actions, although this is only around 4/60 of a second or so.
    • With L-3 Nozzlenose, L-3 Nozzlenose D and Kensa L-3 Nozzlenose, ink consumption is actually increased by 15%, so watch your shot. Also, the effect of the main gear ability Power Up is reduced, and the amount of gear ability needed to deal up to 33,3 damage from 1,8 to 2,4 times the amount of the ability of main equipment is applied. Finally, each secondary gear ability is worth 0,3 of the primary gear ability.
    • The Splat Charger, Firefin Splat Charger, Kensa Charger, and Hero Charger Replica have a slightly constricted area covered in ink droplets from gunfire. So if you specialize with these weapons, you might want to get used to their adjusted range.
    • Finally, the Bamboozler 14 MK I, II, and III all have reduced effect with the Main Power Up gear ability. Additionally, the amount of gear ability needed to deal up to 99,9 damage from 4,1 to 4,4 times the amount of main gear ability is also changed. Finally, the capacity of the secondary equipment is worth 0,3 of the capacity of the main equipment.

Some specs have also been changed with some weapons, as follows:

    • With Splashdown, the area in which damage is dealt upwards has been expanded. This should make it fairly easy to hit enemies that come from the air at a moderate distance. Additionally, the damage boost to opposing Ballers has increased by approximately 21%.
    • With the Baller, the duration of activity time has been reduced from approximately 7 to 6 seconds.

In the last part of the patch notes, the team talked about the points required to use specials for particular weapons, as shown below.

    • Tentatek Splatterhouse and Octo Shot Replica increased from 210 to 200.
    • Replica of Octobrush and Herobrush also decreased from 180 to 170.
    • Enperry Splat Dualies increased from 210 to 200.
    • L-3 Nozzlenose increased from 190 to 210. L-3 Nozzlenose D also increased from 180 to 200.
    • Bamboozler 14 MK I increased from 180 to 200.
    • Soda Slosher increased slightly from 200 to 210.
    • Tenta Camo Brella increased from 200 to 210.

The team has made it clear in their notes that those who match Shoal players won't be able to do so unless they've applied the latest game update. So if you're a die-hard Splatoon 2 reader, you need to make sure it is downloaded.

Splatoon 2's devs also noted that it will "consider similar adjustments for many other weapons in the future," in hopes of maintaining a balance. The game's next update is scheduled for April 2020, but no specific date has been given.

The update is now live and should apply on the next boot. (You can always select Software Update from the main menu if it doesn't automatically apply the next time you start the game.)
