Console gaming has long included FPS games in the same makeup as PC, but there has always been a bit of a divide, a divide that has kind of prevented cross-play for years. Keyboard and mouse controls offer more precision and responsiveness than controllers, with the latter having limited rotation speed and hypersensitivity leading to missed shots, micro-adjustments being much more difficult.
Lens Assist has taken over in recent years, but even that doesn't eliminate the problem. For those looking to step up their game, using a keyboard and mouse on the consoles (now universal USB support) is an enticing option. Unfortunately, even this is imperfect. most games are not formatted to support keyboard and mouse in their console versions.
This is where the adapters came in, helping to remove that gap and allowing proper keyboard and mouse support. Finding the right adapters can be tricky, with many being lower-cost peripherals like many third-party console add-ons, so here's a quick list of the best adapters.
XIM APEX Keyboard Mouse Controller Adapter for PS4 PS3 Xbox One Xbox 360
If you're looking for high-end performance, this is it. the XIM APEX offers the highest performance, lowest latency, smoothest conversion, and most support (from community and developers) of this type of adapters. It also comes in a slim package, which is more than I can say for many of them.
Unfortunately, the price is high, but you get what you pay for with devices like this.

PS4 Keyboard/Mouse Adapter, USB Controller Converter for PS4 Pro/PS4 Slim/PS3/Xbox One/One S/One X/Nintendo Switch with LED Lights
The YCCTEAM adapter is a more economical option that works as a very good USB splitter on the side. Performance is reliable, but its main downside is range (it only works with a hard connection and its cord is very short) and a lack of customization. This only works if your keys are mapped to their default functions, which might be fine for most people who don't assign them weirdly like I do.

Wamo Keyboard/Mouse Adapter for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch PS3 Adapter, Durable and Cost-Effective Keyboard/Mouse Adapter
The Wamo adapter is cumbersome and annoying to use because you have to keep it plugged into the controller all the time, but it offers a lot more customization possibilities than our last model. Whether the trade-off in customization is worth it is up to you.

IFYOO KMAX1 Keyboard/Mouse Adapter Converter for PS4/Xbox One/Switch/PS3
The Kmax1 adapter is a bit of a mixed bag but a great low-cost option. I'm wary of this brand in general, not because the products don't work, but because their longevity isn't usually very long. They are disposable and have inexpensive parts that work well enough for about a year and then deteriorate. It is mainly the cables that tend to separate first, as they are thin and fragile.
It's a great option if you need it now but can't afford a better model.
