The Device event was and went into Fortnite, and it was pretty wild. Midas' machine released strange energies into the world, there were strange dimensional shifts, and it seems that the storm has now turned into a huge wall of water. It's terrifying, in a way, and leaves a lot of questions open about what will happen next season.
As always, the servers were absolutely packed for the event, and the normal game queue was ending, and people couldn't log in while it was happening. Even now, people are struggling to get in, as the servers are still down. People who were in the match for the event can join the matches, but those who weren't are left out.
Players are also encountering the “Epic Services Queue Check,” which is quite common when servers are full or overwhelmed with people trying to get in.
As for when the servers will be backed up, it depends on what exactly Epic needs to do to get the game back to normal. If all game servers need to be reset somehow, it may take a while. If they just need to turn on the servers so people can get in, that should take too long.
According to a tweet from the Fortnite Status Twitter account, they are in the process of bringing the game back to normal, so it shouldn't take too long. Epic has a lot of practice with this process now, after several massive events at the end of different seasons, so they won't expect too much trouble. The event itself also gave them time to upload the new game state to the new servers, which will reduce the wait time.
We won't drop any spoilers here, but something quite dramatic has changed in the game, so enjoy your first look at the new world we're all playing in.
