Here we will explain which are the best sword enchantments in Minecraft and which ones you should use more than others.
Hit
Smite is an extremely useful enchantment for fighting undead monsters in the game. The reason for this is that the enchantment gives a huge damage boost depending on the enchantment level. You'll also end up fighting a ton of zombies and other undead at some point in the game.
For this reason, we recommend Smite as a must-have enchantment that should always be on your sword, as undead are among the most common mob types in the game.
Arthropod Bane also has a similar effect, but instead of a boost to undead, you get increased damage to subsequent creatures.
- spiders
- The bees
- Silver fish
- endermites
Overall, beyond spiders, enchantment isn't very useful in the long run, and if you get the chance, we'd recommend going with smite.

Sharpness / Fire Aspect
This next enchantment, Sharpness, is a very useful enchantment and one of the best for the simple reason that it will increase your weapon's total melee damage.
The damage boost also scales with level, with the highest being a level five enchantment boost. You can also increase your damage by adding a fire aspect, which adds fire damage to your sword.
overthrow
Knockback is another great enchantment for the simple reason that it increases the knockback effect when hitting enemies with a sword about three blocks away. All in all, a handy enchantment gives you an advantage when overwhelmed by mobs or during PVP with other players.
Pillage
If you want to gather more items when killing mobs, plunder is your best enchantment and should always be placed on your sword for this reason. The bonuses you get from looting will also increase based on the level of enchantment placed on the sword.
