After the release of Minecraft 1.18, players discovered that the world generation mechanics and ore distribution got a complete overhaul. Diamonds being the most lucrative mineral (and one of the rarest), most of us want to know the best locations to look for them.
The most important thing to know about how Diamond Ore spawns in Minecraft 1.18 is that it still only spawns below Y 16 in Overworld, and can still spawn in any biome . However, there has been a massive change in the frequency at which it generates to better represent how diamonds form in real life.

Diamon Ore is most commonly found below Y -59, but the full range of its generation is between Y -64 and Y 16. Due to its low generation, there is no preferred biome for the generation. For example, any point below Y 16 in a Badlands biome is just as likely to generate Diamond Ore as any point below Y 16 in a mountain biome.
That being said, it seems that strip mining is still the best option for finding diamond ore veins, you just need to move about 60 blocks down!
