No Man's Sky's Living Ship update introduced organic spaceships made of alien flesh for you to fly. If you're new to the game, it might be a while before you can get your hands on one. If you can't summon an Anomaly yet, you'll need to continue the game until you've discovered your first one in the vastness of space, and after that you can set about the long task of getting your living vessel.
Step 1 – The Anomaly
Your first step is to head into space, summon the Anomaly and then get yourself an Empty Egg. You can buy an empty egg there for 3200 Quicksilver. If you don't have enough Quicksilver, it's time to delete some daily and weekly Nexus missions.
Step 2 – Egg Melody
When you have your empty egg, return to space and start warping. After a random number of deformations, you will receive a message and the Egg Melody stage will begin. It's about warping, because you'll get a random message by warping a random number of times. Record the message you may receive, as there are thirteen possible messages you may receive. You'll get new messages at what appear to be random intervals, based on a random number of strings. The first twelve posts are references to some glyph locations you'll need later, while the last one will point to the galaxy you need to progress in the quest.
Step 3 – Find a Portal
When you have all 13 messages, it's time to find a portal. All planets should have a portal on them. Finding it may take a bit of time, but just choose a planet and explore until you manage to find it. All the portals look the same and consist of a collection of large blocks and stone, with a number of circles inset in the center. When you find a portal, you must enter the glyphs of the messages in the order they were received.
Step 4 – via the portal
Once you have entered all the glyphs into the portal, it will transport you to a new planet and you will get another message. Follow the instructions in the message to travel to a location in this solar system. When you arrive, you'll get another message telling you to "Watch for us in the stars."
Step 5 – Return to Space
Return to space and fly at the speed of your pulse until your ship detects an anomaly. If you drop Pulse Velocity, you will encounter a living ship, and this will start the Starbirth mission.
Step 6 – Starbirth
The Starbirth mission is all about following your Void Egg's instructions to find certain planets and components you need for your living ship. Because this is all random, as is the order of the glyphs, we can't show you where you should go. Once you find the correct planet, you'll give coordinates when you enter the atmosphere, so if you don't get them, you'll have to try another planet.
Follow the coordinates, land, then search for a relic that will give you the blueprint you need to build a ship component. Build the component and you will move on to the next part of the quest. Just follow the Void Egg instructions, find all the parts you need and build them, and a living ship will be yours.
