Minecraft is heading into their new Caves and Cliffs update, and they've released their first playable snapshot in the Java version of the game. This update doesn't add everything that should be released, but gives players a preview taste of what's to come! One of those things is the ability to create candles, which is a great way to add some extra visual interest to your designs. They also make a decent lighting item, if you're looking for something a little different from a torch.
Create candles
To craft candles in Minecraft you will need 1 Honeycomb and 1 String. This will give you a single candle that can be placed and lit. To get the Honeycomb, you will need to find a Hive, which is rarely found in biomes like Plains, Sunflower Plains, and Flower Forests. String can be obtained quite easily by killing spiders, breaking cobwebs, fishing, or as gifts from cats! You can also find String in various chests located in spawned structures.
Once you have candles yourself, you can place up to four in one place. You just keep placing them in the same place and they will organize themselves according to the number of people in place. Once you have four in place, you cannot place any more. To light the candle you will need a flint and steel and use it on the candle to bring them to life. They seem to burn forever, so you don't have to worry about them completely melting. To extinguish them, you just have to break the candle and you can replace it on the spot. You can also pour water on them if you don't want to put them back.
Colored candles
If you want to change the color of your candles, it's a fairly simple process. All you have to do is place your selected dye in a crafting window with a candle and it will change to that color. This is again ideal for anyone looking to decorate their home or base with a particular color scheme.
Birthday cake
If you want to celebrate a birthday with your friends, you can do it in Minecraft! You will just need to bake a cake, place it somewhere, and then add a candle to it. Light the candle and start singing the birthday song to end the celebration!
Once someone takes a bite of the cake, the candle will fall out and can be used again if desired!
