Amethyst Geodes are the newest underground structures in Minecraft 1.17: Caves and Cliffs update. They look like compartments of calcite and amethyst blocks, overlapping on the outside and hollow on the inside. This guide will provide you tips on how to find Amethyst Geodes in Minecraft 1.17.
These structures spawn in 1 of the 53 chunks, which means they're fairly common and you shouldn't have much trouble finding them. But there are some places where you can spot them easily without having to dig a lot of dirt.
How to Find Amethyst Geodes in Minecraft 1.17
Natural Generation
Amethyst geodes can generate Y coordinates from 0 to 70. This means you can also find them on the surface of the overworld. This is good news as they appear quite often in places such as:
- Ocean and water-visible biomes
- The surfaces of the savannah and desert biomes
- Exposed in ravines and caves
You should check these locations first before attempting to go underground. If you can't find them on the surface, you can check out other underground structures that often intersect amethyst geodes, such as:
- Abandoned mine shafts
- Dungeons with monster spawners
- Underground ravines and caves
- Strongholds
- Ruined Underground Portals
Finally, you can use our Minecraft Seeds to get the exact coordinates of Amethyst Geode locations on dedicated World Seeds.
Application
Amethyst geodes are a source of the following amethyst blocks:
- smooth basalt
- calcite
- amethyst cluster
- amethyst bud
- Amethyst Shard
- Telescope
- budding amethyst
- Amethyst Block
- Tinted glass
While smooth basalt and calcite are purely decorative blocks, other amethyst blocks have special and unique functions.
Amethyst buds and clusters emit low levels of light which can be used in dark areas:
- Small buds give light Level 1
- Medium buds give light Level 2
- Large buds give light Level 4
Spyglass, made of amethyst shards and copper ingots, can be used as a zooming tool, allowing you to see and explore distant areas in the distance.
Finally, tinted glass has the ability to block light, which can be used to suppress light from the glow stone.
