    Who created Minecraft?

Markus "Notch" Persson originally created Minecraft in 2009. The game has been much more successful than expected. Markus Persson worked at companies like King and jalbum when Minecraft was first created, but left to fully develop the game in its 1.0 release.

Minecraft took most of its code and foundations from Infiniminer, an open source game. Infiminer was the inspiration and spark that started Notch's creative flow. Notch wanted to expand it with his own ideas and focus his game more on the role-playing aspects.

Mojang started as a sole proprietorship in May 2009 and grew to have 25 employees by the end of 2012. This was the same year that Minecraft broke many records like top selling copies, most active users , and more. In 2021, Mojang has already transformed into Mojang Studios and has hired over 600 people working on various versions of Minecraft and other spin-off titles like Minecraft: Dungeons.

In 2014, Mojang was acquired for $2,5 billion by Microsoft along with the Minecraft intellectual property. Markus “Notch” Persson himself left Mojang in 2017, leaving the project he started behind. His name still remains in the credits of the game.
